Third year.

November 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Third year is officially over. Therefore my life is officially over. Kidding. But it might be. Who knows. But we’re all positive. Thinking of the future. But in honor of this joyous occasion I’m going to post some stuff from this year. Yeah real sick work n shit. Well its not half bad I guess.

These two shots are from the Printmaking department Group show earlier in the year. This was the beginning of my ‘Constructed Worlds’ installation that I will be showing at the 2009 VCA graduate exhibition. These two plates were my first juxtaposition of fluid tushe washes and solid intense blacks. It was also my first chance to install the work in a space that was not my studio which was rad. I planned to print editions of the plates so i could in a sense use the images a puzzle pieces to create this idea of a constantly fluid and flexible installation.

So these are the ‘Inverse Constructed Worlds’ series. Not so successful. Well printed but I dunno eh. Something not right. But this is a smaller installation in the printmaking department. That’s it for now. Stay tuned for more configurations.

So I was THIS CLOSE to 10 grand! Really!

October 13, 2009 · 1 Comment

So I’ve been a bit sicky lately. LAME. But it is giving me a little bit of time to do this again. SO I thought I’d start to talk about some shows I’ve been in lately because we’re all gearing up for our grad show at the moment so I’m in that really ‘fun’ frame of mind.

So a little while ago I was short listed as finalist for the 2009 Wallara Travelling Scholarship. This was pretty exciting stuff as there were only 14 finalists from the VCA school of art and 4 of those finalists were from the printmaking department. Because it was an acquisitive prize of $10,000 the 14 finialists got to put on a swanky show at the Margaret Lawrence Gallery complete with fancy opening night with canapés and waiters.  Sadly (TOTALLY DEVASTATED!)  I did not win but my good pal Christopher Dolman (BASTARD!) did! He was a deserving winner and a fantastic representation of the department.

The show was opened by Jason Smith, the director of the Heide Museum of Modern Art and they way he spoke about printmaking was truly heart warming. Oh shucks too sentimental…here are some photos.

The show.

my work.

close, maybe too close.

More prints for you and your specific enjoyment. Sorry I’ve been slack-y lately but it is totally busy time. These are all lithographs. Again. Sorry, but I find it to be fun times. Sorry about some crap photography. I’m usually better.

Circles are rad. They make more of an appearance in third year stuff too. Stay tuned for that. Blog time has got me distracted from writing important essays about the nature of evil vampires so I must go do that now.
